Jet Set Vision Trip: Prague and Budapest

Prepare for takeoff!

As I type this, a group of pastors, planters, and missional practitioners are on their way to Prague, Czech Republic, for the first stop in a two-city vision trip to Central Europe. The idea is simple: rather than gather in a classroom talk about missiology, culture, and church, we take to the streets to discuss these vital concepts while experiencing first-hand the needs and opportunities for a church’s active engagement in God’s global mission.

For this trip, we’ve invited missiologist and Exiles author Michael Frost to lead some of the discussion and to provide commentary along the way. His understanding of missional approaches to ministry and church planting will bring tremendous insight to the experience. In each of the cities, we’re hosting a one-day conference and webinar, where Michael will teach on “Church in a Broken World.” If you’d like to participate in the webinar, register free here. Act fast, though, because space is limited!

A small video crew will accompany the group and post videos of trip highlights to the Upstream Vimeo channel throughout the day. You’ll be able to see the group as they walk and talk throughout Prague and Budapest, and you’ll hear their thoughts in their words along the way.

We want you to participate from home, so we’ve asked the group to do their best to Tweet, blog, and Facebook their thoughts from Prague and Budapest. Natalie and Jimmy Bunch arrived in country a couple days ago, and have already posted some thoughts on their blogs in advance of the trip. For a quick overview of these great cities, check out Prague and Budapest 101.

Furthermore, we’ve invited several prominent bloggers to follow the trip virtually. They will provide running commentary on the trip, weighing in on discussion topics, trip highlights, and participant reflections. Official Jet Set Commentators include:

The sign says, "Jet Set Café." Prague is ready for us!

These bloggers won’t hold back as they review the trip content and conversation. Each will bring a unique perspective to the discussion. Tall Skinny Kiwi, who is no stranger to Prague,  has posted some great audio of a conversation with Michael Frost at Lausanne Cape Town. Michael Carpenter, rockstar of the Rome/Marseille triphas posted  about the trip as well. Of course, we’re not afraid to comment on their commentary, and we’ll summarize it all right here on the Upstream Collective blog.

The eight-day trip officially starts Tuesday, April 12. Be sure to check back in to keep up with the trip virtually via posts, tweets, and videos. We’re looking forward to a week of great adventure. Please join us!

Also, be sure to vote for our next Jet Set Vision Trip destination city and trip commentator. If you’re interested in participating in a future trip, or if you’re on the field and would like to host one, please let us know.
